Board Members
PresidentMel Nelson is the President of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. He has served as the Region 10 Vice President and as a Past President of our Chapter as well as a past Director of In-House Education and a Strategic Advisor for SCVC. Mel is the founder and president of M.N. Nelson & Associates. Prior to starting his firm in 1980, Mel worked for such companies as Exxon, Perkin-Elmer, FMC, and General Dynamics. Mel is a regular presenter of APICS International Conferences; including the JIT Conference; Congress For Progress; National Association for Purchasing Management Conferences. Mel is a frequent keynote speaker at Universities and User Group meetings. His flair and expertise are sought after across the country. Mel also teaches all CPIM and CSCP Certification Preparation Workshop courses for APICS. He is the co-author of the renowned APICS "Train the Trainer" course. He has been published in scores of Business Magazines and Journals. In 1994-95 Mel was the Vice President of Region 10, responsible for the 10 Western States, and in 1996 was the Executive Vice President of APICS International. Mel was recently accepted to the very distinguished APICS Instructor Development Program. As the current President of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter and one of its most distinguished Instructors, Mel’s exceptional experience in all aspects of APICS is helping elevate our Chapter to higher standards.
Executive V.P.Sue Nelson, CFPIM, CSCP is the Executive Vice President of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. She has been an SCVC Past President and past Vice President of Marketing for Pacific Northwest District. Sue is an associate at M.N. Nelson & Associates since 1993. Sue brings to the Chapter an impressive repertoire of experience including Sales, Marketing and Distribution, Computer Operations and Manufacturing/Inventory Management. With a degree in Computer Programming, she has been instrumental in the successful implementation of a variety of ERP systems. Sue has been an active member of APICS for many years, having served as President of the Portland, Oregon Chapter as well as Region Ten Staff, an is a premier instructor for the SCVC Chapter who captivates her audiences with her sunny disposition. She is certified in CSCP and CPIM at the Fellow level. Sue has presented at many APICS International Conferences, multiple professional society dinner meetings, numerous universities and teaches all CPIM Certification Preparation Workshops for APICS. Her foundation of knowledge and experience brings a wealth of information to SCVC.
V.P. EducationTerry Myers, CPIM, CIRM, CSCP is the Vice President of Education. He has served on the Board since 2002 in various capacities. Terry has taught courses for the CPIM certification. He has been in the Silicon Valley for over ten years, holding various positions in manufacturing, engineering, and inventory management. He is currently working as a Production Planner at KLA-Tencor Corporation. Terry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Terry had dedicated many selfless hours to the Chapter, and his contributions are countless. Terry is a very big part of the Chapter's history, and we continue to appreciate his outstanding commitment.
V.P. MarketingBrian A. Pessano, C.P.M., CPIM, CSCP, is the Vice President of Marketing for the APICS-Santa Clara Valley Chapter. Brian is the Director of Supply Chain Management for AMtec Industries, Inc., a manufacturer of control systems for the semiconductor, HVAC, biotech and alternative power industries. Brian has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management and Managerial Economics from California State University in Hayward. As the driving force behind the Chapter's Marketing efforts, Brian has volunteered many hours of his personal time and efforts to the SCVC. The Chapter continues to lay claim to its success in educational programs with the help of devoted efforts such as Brian's. He has personally spearheaded several campaigns to promote our special events and goodwill in the Bay Area, and can regularily be seen at many Conferences across the country. Brian's impact is widespread on many levels, and the Chapter is pleased to have him represent APICS.
V.P. FinanceSteve Stoner is the Chapter's Director of Finance. As a MRP Make-part Controller, Steve performs activities of material analysis and planning on a regular basis. This includes material acquisition, inventory control and documentation, reviewing and evaluates engineering drawing and specifications to determine requirements of critical or long lead parts and materials, in support of vehicle development. Steve maintains a high level of communication between management, engineering, analysis, purchasing and customers. Steve has a vast knowledge of create purchase requisitions based on engineering requirements, and other order requirements as necessary to facilitate the expedition of material. Steve Stoner also has experience in financial accounting and procurement experience. He has a MBA degree, Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Phoenix. Steve is a retired officer (of 31-years) in logistics, and is currently the President of the Lockheed Martin Leadership Association, with a membership base of 935 members. Steve enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two daughters.
V.P. MembershipBill Schwarz is the Vice President of Membership for the APICS Santa Clara Valley Chapter. Bill is an Inventory Control Analyst for Intuitive Surgical, a manufacturer and distributor of the DaVinci Surgical Systems. Bill has over 15 years’ experience in Inventory Control in different industries such as medical device, retail and food. Bill is in the process of completing his CPIM certification. The Chapter welcomes Bill to the Board in 2010, and anticipates that his drive and enthusiasm will prove to be a valuable asset to the Chapter.
Director at LargeRick Merritt, CFPIM, CSCP, C.P.M., is a Director at Large, past President for the APICS-Santa Clara Valley Chapter, serving from 2007 to 2009. A certified APICS instructor, Rick teaches courses for the CPIM certification and helped develop the first CSCP classes in Northern California. He is recognized as a CSCP Subject Matter Expert (SME) by APICS. He has also provided training internationally. He has more than thirty years of operations and materials management experience in the public and private sectors with such companies as Applied Materials, Hexcel Corporation and JDS Uniphase. He has managed groups responsible both direct and indirect materials. With a focus on waste reduction, he has managed and piloted programs in outsourcing, supplier consigned inventories, strategic contracting, Continuous Process improvement and lead time reduction. Rick completed his undergraduate studies at San Jose State University receiving a B.A in Public Relations with a minor in Business Administration. He earned his M.S. in Procurement and Contract Management from Saint Mary?s College of California in Moraga. He has been a guest lecturer for several organizations including Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), Institute of Managerial Accountants (IMA) and Arizona State University.
Director At LargeVivian Chan is the Director At Large of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. Before she moved in logistics management in retail industry, she had been in airlines customer relations and police operations management for 11 years. She, then returned to school to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems. She is now pursuing her MBA degree in Operations Research in San Francisco state University.
Director of MarketingAnnie Dea is the Director of Marketing of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter. She has an MBA from Boston University. She has experience in OEM account management, sales operations and program management in the electronics manufacturing industry.
Director of Special ProjectsAmir Tavakoli has a Master’s degree in Project Management from George Washington University, an MBA from University of Phoenix and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has extensive engineering, program management, quality and business development experience encompassing the entire development cycle in consumer electronics (data backup solutions and networking), semiconductor, hard disk drive storage / server industries. Expertise in quality product / process definition and execution, process improvement and optimization, supply chain management, quality supplier selection and Joint Development Manufacturer (JDM/ODM), performance measurement, problem solving, statistical process control and JIT/cost effectiveness techniques.
Director of Membership RetentionNina Stevenson has 31 years of practical experience in the Semiconductor field, ranging from start-ups to R & D companies. Her key strengths include a thorough understanding of Basic Supply Chain and Manufacturing Planning & Control systems, with a highly detailed and organized skill set. Throughout the years, she has gained a broad range of experience and knowledge within the Production Planning and Execution Phase of manufacturing and production control environments, and has led Projects and Teams. Her positive outlook and winning attitude make her a cheerful and dynamic part of our team. Nina is currently working towards completing her CPIM Certification.
Director of ProgramsPete Zerbato has 27 years of hands on experience in material management, production planning and control, supply chain and procurement. His career started in grocery retail, to warehousing, to contract manufacturing and 3PL, and then back into the Semiconductor industry in procurement. Pete is currently working towards his CPIM certification.
Past PresidentPaul A. Long Sr., CPIM, CPPS, CM, CSCP, C.P.M., served as the President of APICS Santa Clara Valley Chapter from 2009 to 2010. Paul is a Lead Buy Part Controller (Senior Staff) with Lockheed Martin Space Systems, and supports the Avionics group in Sunnyvale, California. Prior to joining Lockheed Martin, Paul was a member of the SAP Implementation Team at the Northrop Grumman facility in Azusa, California and responsible for developing processes for supporting SAP users. Paul has knowledge and experience which include Customer Service, Production Planning, Shop Floor Control, Capacity Planning, Expediting, Dispatching and Master Scheduling. Paul is an individual who is dedicated to life long learning and professional development. He has a B.A. in Business and his M.S. in Organizational Leadership. In addition to devoting his personal time and skill to APICS, Paul is a distinguished Member of NPMA, ISM, PMI and LMLA. He is CPIM certified and provides instruction for the Santa Clara Valley Chapter, as well as having taught Manufacturing and Inventory Management classes at the San Gabriel, California Chapter. Paul is certified in Systems Engineering (CalTech), Project Management (UnivCal Irvine), as well as ISO 9000 (Perry Johnson). Paul's worldly experience brings invaluable insight and direction to SCVC. |
